Leveraging geolocation technology, the application will guide you to significant locations, and with the assistance of Augmented Reality technology, the story will come to life on your phone’s screen.
History
Major Mieczysław Słowikowski established and operated an intelligence network in North Africa, through which Allied military forces successfully conducted Operation Torch in 1942. After the victory in North Africa, the balance of power in World War II began to shift, ultimately leading to the Allied forces prevailing over the German military. The Africa Agency conveyed information to the Polish government, as well as to the United Kingdom and the USA. The intelligence operations were conducted under the cover of economic activities – an oatmeal factory, which was also an economic success and provided substantial financial support for the operations of the Expositura.
Another significant success for the Poles was the breaking of the codes of the German Enigma encryption machine and the creation of a decryption machine. The cryptographic unit led by Lieutenant Maksymilian Ciężki also operated in North Africa…
Operating principles
The mobile application AgentPL operates on mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) running on the Android and iOS operating systems. The most notable feature of the application is the use of ‘Augmented Reality,’ which is a modern technology that allows the blending of real-world images with computer-generated objects.
The application utilizes two types of augmented reality:
A) Based on the detection of two-dimensional markers (in this case, special graphics consisting of QR codes and other graphic elements, e.g., QR codes placed as part of a poster’s composition).
B) Based on geolocation and orientation, meaning the application sends location-based information. Users receive special notifications and tasks depending on the physical location they are in. The application operates within Morocco and includes most historical points it relates to.
The application is a form of real-world game. Its goal is to show us the historical traces of Major Słowikowski in the real space of Morocco.
Interactions involve receiving messages, responding to tasks, and following subsequent information that leads to specific points where the next scenes are programmed (in Augmented Reality), overlaid onto the real world.
